Did you know less than half of seniors (60+) who qualify for the Washington Basic Food Program (Basic Food) use their available benefits?

Here at GSC Meals on Wheels, we do more than just deliver meals. We also help our participants get connected with the programs and services they deserve like Basic Food!

Many seniors don’t realize that income is not the only criteria that determines their Washington Basic Food Program eligibility. For example, some of your medical expenses can help you qualify for the program. We also provide fun, easy instructional videos to help you extend your groceries as effectively as possible.

Additionally, we can help you navigate the Basic Food system. Here in Washington State, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is called Basic Food, which can be confusing since our local Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners is also called SNAP.

The Supplemental Nutrition Program is a federal program that works to increase food security and reduce hunger by providing children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education to support American agriculture and inspire public confidence. The Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners is a local agency that provides people of low income with access to needed resources and helps them make the kinds of connections that create opportunity.
